Dr. Virgilio Terrachini, whose origins
are from Emilia Romagna region, was born at Porto
San Giorgio (AP) on January 15th 1957. Until 18
years of age he lived in many Italian towns (Salerno,
Reggio Emilia, Cremona, Parma, Forlì, Catania)
due to his father’s activity. In 1976 he qualified
as an accountant. In 1976 he qualified as a shipping
and commercial expert. In 1982 he graduated in Medicine
and Surgery at the University of Genoa and in November
1982 the state examination qualified him to practice
as a surgical physician. He specialized in Cardiology
at the University of Genoa in 1987. In the period
1983/1991 he has been researcher at the Chair of
Cardiology of the University of Genoa and responsible
for the Teaching Hospital cardiological consulting
room. For several years he has been Scientific Advisor
for many Italian and foreign Drug Industries and
Cardiological Branch Director in many private diagnostic
institutes of Genoa and province. He is the author
of 85 scientific publications on cardiological,
echocardiographic and pharmacological issues that
were published on main Italian and foreign specialized
medical journals; he was also rapporteur and moderator
during important national and international cardiological
congresses. He is married, at the moment he lives
and works in Genoa as an outpatient specialist cardiologist
for the “ASL 3 service of Genoa” at
Celesia hospital in Genoa-Rivarolo and at Frugone
hospital in Busalla. He also works as an independent
professional cardiologist in his Office of Cardiological
Diagnostics in Genoa.
He started being a stamp-collector in 1966 under
the guidance of his father Luigi Terrachini, on
his turn illustrious scholar and stamp-collector;
he started his present activity as philatelic expert
in 1996. He is presently registered at Genoa Chamber
of Commerce in the role of Philatelic Expert, in
recognition of his thorough knowledge in the field.
He is registered at Genoa Court of Justice and Superior
Court as Philatelic Expert and Technical Consultant.
He is a member of AICPM and CIFO. In the past, he
contributed to the editing of “Catalogo Enciclopedico
Italiano” and since 2008 he regularly edits
the page “L’angolo del Perito Filatelico"
on the famous bimonthly journal “L’Informazione
del Collezionista” managed by Augusto Ferrara.
In addition, he also collaborates with “Delcampe”,
the well-known international website for philatelic
and numismatic sales. Currently, he performs his
professional activity in his Philatelic Office in
the centre of Genoa, in Via Caprera 6.
